The bio organic tattoo style is an abstract representation of naturally flowing, and comprised of elements that can be found in the natural world. It’s pretty common to see plants, bones, teeth, and other imagery that all swirl together and contort with the shape of the human body. Similarly to bio mechanical tattoos, where elements of robotics and technology are fused with the anatomical structure of the subject, bio organic tattoos are do the same but with more ‘organic’ subject matter.

No matter what tattoo artist you choose, each bioorganic tattoo will be 100% custom in its creation, as the designs are typically freehand in their outline, and are designed to the specific body structure of the recipient. The bio organic tattoo varies in and of itself as much as any tattoo style does, but has evolved from the desire for natural immersion. By definition, bio organic is the descriptive term that pertains to the composition and activity of a carbon based compound, which in layman's terms, is anything that is “alive”.

Typically, bio organic tattoos are very textured. Looking at examples from tattoo artists like Roman Abrego, Paul Booth, and Nick Baxter, you’ll see the heavy usage of corals, bones, metals, plants, tree bark, among other elements. These designs can often be fused with the internal structure of the human body, such as veins, muscle tissue, organs and such. Because of the vibrant beauty and diverse color palette of the natural world, bio organic tattoos are often very bright and colorful, while biomechanical tattoos are usually darker in both color (often black and grey) and in mood.

The line that separates bio organic from biomechanical can be blurred; both styles have many similar elements and often blend together.  Some tattoo artists use vivid color schematics and add machine-esque elements such as metal panels, wiring, and other things in order to create a more dynamic design.
With all that said, bio organic tattoos are best reserved for seasoned tattoo artists, well versed in color theory, light perspectives, and anatomical knowledge. The perfect bio organic tattoo will flow naturally with the curves of the human body, and appear as a “part” of the skin canvas. Be sure to do your research and look at many portfolios and tattoo artists if you are looking to get a bio organic tattoo.

Chad has been practicing the fine art of tattooing and piercing since 1996.

Opening his first studio in 1996 - Forever Ink,  located in Sanford, Maine was a true learning experience.  With some outside help from business and tattoo minds alike the shop was soon a success.

Our latest business; Venom Ink Tattoo started November 2004 in Dover, New Hampshire.  After quickly developing a strong clientele the shop moved to it's new location in Sanford, Maine. The shop is thriving, busy...busy...busy!  With two great daughters and the perfect woman, staying grounded is not a problem.  Venom Ink gains new clientele daily and strives to make each and everyone of them proud to wear our work.

Chad specializes in realism, but isn't limited to that by any means. Look at his portfolio and you'll see eveyrthing from bio-organic pieces to portraiture to asian  inspired. Anything is possible. No limitations!

KellyLife & business partner, Kelly has been on Chad's roller coaster ride since 1997.  She received her first tattoo from Chad back then and has been a part of his life ever since.

Kelly's role is part shop owner, manager, and loving fiancé.  Without Kelly, the shop would not run smoothly, appointments would never get made, bills would not be paid, and orders would not be placed.Chaos would reign!

Kelly also provides photoshop work for other people as well, business card design, web banners and fliers for everything from concerts to tattoo conventions are just a few of the things she can create. If you need something done, especially tattoo industry related, contact her!

Chris "Chubbs"Chris  Chubbuck has been tattooing since the start of 2006. Hes very comfortable tattooing anything requiring smooth blends such as flowers and animals. Chubbs also loves the darkside. Evil portrayed in black and gray or color, you're assured an amazing one of a kind tattoo from this incredible young artist!

Man Hands Dan Kelley is what they call me around here.

I am 22 years old born and raised in Maine. I have been tattooing since early 2010. I fell in love with tattoos at the age of 17 and soon after that I began my first apprenticeship. Moving from shop  to  shop when I was 18, I finally ended up at Venom Ink Tattoo soon after I turned 19. It is then that I began apprenticing under two amazing artists Chad Chase and Chris Chubbuck and for nearly 3 years I busted my butt to learn all that I could about the art of tattooing. I've dedicated my entire life to this and I am thrilled each and every time I get to put a piece of art in someones skin.

Bright and bold color is my favorite style of tattooing but I enjoy other styles as well. You can never bore me with your tattoo ideas, throw something at me and I will  give you a quality finished  product that leaves you wanting to come back for more.

Matthew Brown's strong artistic back ground including college level art courses eventually led him to the wonderful world of tattooing in 2008. The addition of body art to his list of art mediums has proven to be a strong passion and a whole new lifestyle. Working his way through the ranks, he has finally found himself here at Venom Ink and has brought with him a wide ranged portfolio with a strong interest in black and grey work. With experience in nearly every style, he is always willing and ready to work with clients to help them get the best custom tattoo imaginable! Check out his portfolio and come set up an appointment with him!!

You can find a reputable tattoo artist several ways. Word of mouth (in other words, ask). Or you can take it upon yourself to do the dirty work. As in, the inspection of the shop and the portfolios.
Don't buy into the idea that the busiest or most well-known artist in your area is the best. Would you apply that same rule to your hairdresser, mechanic or nail technician? Of course not. So shop around and find the artist that's creative, trustworthy and most of all, clean.

Take a tour: Before you start calling around tattoo studios let your feet do the walking instead. There's no better way to get a feel for an artist than to pop right in. See what the artists are doing, who's available to chat, and most importantly decide if you like the atmosphere. You'll be spending quite some time there.
Next, is the place clean? See a license? Chairs look wiped off? Good. Now introduce yourself and get ready to plan the tattoo process.

Start talking ideas: Here's your chance to interview an artist. Spill your thoughts. Lots of people have fears about tattoo artists as stereotypes have created a certain culture club associated with the craft. Tattooists are human. Don't be afraid to talk to them. Show them your body and let them listen to your ideas. See where it goes. Are they spilling back design suggestions? If yes, keep talking. Explore colors and go over flash or custom sketch options. If not, head out the door. This isn't the artist for you.
Do a trial: Any reputable artist should be willing to create a few sample sketches and even let you test drive a temporary design. This is your body. Don't be in such a hurry. If it's not right, try again. There is no room for permanent errors. This is especially important to note if you're planning a name, cultural symbol or language tattoo.
Get inked: Once you found the guy who has envisioned your tattoo just as you have, it's time to pick a date. Get to your appointment on time and sober. Make sure you have some cash for a tip. Your tattooist deserves it. He's worked hard. An extra twenty percent added to your bill will do.
Spread the word: Celebrity tattooists rely on the same thing. Publicity. If you discovered hidden talent in your local area, spread the word. Fan page your artist on Facebook and social media sites, provide credit and post photographs.
You don't have to be part of a culture club to find a talented artist. You just have to be someone who appreciates a creative, trustworthy and most of all, clean tattooist. You know, just like your hairdresser. (And the chairs are more comfortable!)
I’ve already stated in previous articles that tattoo shops are not yard sales; it’s not proper to try to haggle with the artist over the cost for their time and expertise. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t sympathize with the fact that tattoos can be expensive. So, even though I don’t condone you trying to talk an artist down on his/her asking price, I thought I’d share a few tips on other ways to save on some new ink.
Timing
Sometimes, it’s all about catching an artist when they really need the work. The winter months tend to be the slowest in many tattoo shops, which means the artists are making less—and they have families to feed and holiday gifts to buy, too. So, keep a close watch on specials, coupons and other discounts being offered at your local tattoo shops during the colder months of the year.

I have noticed that I get see a lot of bulletins and notices being posted on MySpace by artists offering discounted work. Adding them as a friend or signing up for their newsletter (if they offer one) is a great way to keep up with any sales going on.

Trading
If you offer a service that your artist is interested in – such as mechanic work, haircuts, meals, painting, roofing, taxes, etc. – you might be able to trade work for ink. This kind of arrangement needs to be clearly outlined in a contract, though, so both parties are protected.

Offering your services in trade for ink isn’t rude like asking for a discount. But if they say no, don’t keep pushing the issue.

Creative Freedom
Sometimes, artists get bored doing simple stuff and flash work all the time and really love a chance to be creative. They may offer deep discounts or even free ink time if you’re willing to offer them a leg, an arm or a back that they can do whatever they want with.

Some artists will post bulletins/ads that they’re looking for a willing participant, but you can also ask your artist if they would be willing to offer a discount if you offer them creative freedom.

This is a great book, the third in the series. It includes 192 pages of full color images of tattoos done by the best artists tattooing in Yokohama and Tokyo, including members of the Horiyoshi family. This book is appx. 7" x 10", and features a lot more full page photos than the first two book - much clearer images. Text in Japanese. The tattoos in the photos are all of traditional Japanese imagery (the heroes of the suikoden, demons and oni, dragons, phoenix and Koi fish) a great resource book for both the artist and those looking for inspiration for their own tattoos. It is interesting how true to form the style remains. This is a great compilation for any fan of traditional Japanese tattoo artwork and design.

This book is really cool - the Tattoo Tribal guys did it again!! This book has 19 full color, full pages original art pieces by some amazing artists including Hata from Inkrat Tattoo, Makoto from Hocus Pocus, Horihito from Studio Baku, Shige from Yellow Blaze in Yokohama and Hiroyuki Cotton Pickin' and many more. Tattoo photos are clear and feature both traditional and contemporary art styles. The book includes sections devoted to Lilies, Acanthus, Roses, Clovers, Olive, Lemon, Strawberry, Sunflowers, Lillie of The Valley, Hibiscus, Cherry, Apple, Mushroom, Lotus, Paisley, Grapes. Pomegranate, Hemp, Arabesque, Japanese Cherry Blossom (sakura), Chrysanthemum, Tree Peony, Morning Glory, Willow, Red Spider Lily, Gourds, Bamboo, Pine, Ume (Japanese Plums),Iris, Maple, Camellia, Hydrangea, Orchid, Violet, Peaches, Wisteria and Japanese Playing Cards. (!!?!?!?) Over 300 color photos of amazing Japanese flower tattoos. This book is another great compilation out by the Tattoo Tribal magazine group - one of the most popular tattoo magazines here in Japan. This book is appx. 7" x 10" and 160 pages. Text is in Japanese, except for chapter introduction and some of the artists and shops. This is a great book for around the shop or personal reference.

Tattoo Collection put out May 2006 by the Fujimi Mook people who publish Tattoo Tribal magazine here in Japan. It is a great collection of tattoo photographs that vary in subject from classic Japanese design to more western inspired stuff. It is 161 pages and includes an average of 9 photos per page, all full color. TONS OF PHOTOS!!  This book illustrates the direction tattoo artistry is taking in modern day Japan...very cool. The book is divided into categories according to subject: Bird, God, Girl, Flower, Ride, Skull, Treasure, Mermaid, Treasure, Bio, Waist, Monster, Tribal, Heart, Color, Symmetry, Dragon, Cross, Circle, Butterfly, Weapon, Animal, Portrait, Bird, Angel & Devil, Music, Spider, Calf, Aquarium, Message, Character, Backpiece, Cat and dog, Japanese Item, Snake, and Space. All in all this is a great book for personal reference and to have around to shop.

This book is called Tattoo Graphy, and is put out by the Fujimi Mook people who publish Tattoo Tribal magazine here in Japan. It is a great collection of tattoo photographs that vary in subject from classic Japanese design to more western inspired imagery. It is 160 pages and contains an average of 9 photos per page, all full color. TONS OF PHOTOS!! This books illustrates the direction tattoo artistry is taking in modern day Japan...very cool. Tattoo Gallery put out December 2005 by the Fujimi Mook people who publish Tattoo Tribal magazine here in Japan - they've had their fingers on the pulse of Japanese tattooing since 2002 . It is a great collection of tattoo photographs that vary in subject from classic Japanese design to more western inspired stuff. This books illustrates the direction tattoo artistry is taking in modern day Japan...very cool stuff. The book is divided into categories according to subject: Bird, God, Girl, Flower, Ride, Skeleton, Mermaid, Treasure, Bio, Waist, Monster, Tribal, Heart, Color, Symmetry, Dragon, Cross, Circle, Butterfly, Weapon, Animal, Portrait, Angel & Devil, Music, Spider, Calf, Aquarium, Message, Character, Backpiece and Space. All in all this is a great book for personal reference and to have around the shop.

This book is a tattoo photo collection called Tattoo Works and is put out by one of the best monthly tattoo magazines in Japan, Tattoo Tribal. The book contains 100's of photographs of tattoos done over the last few years by the major artists/shops in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka....it includes a list of shop details (names, addresses and websites) in the back. What struck me about this book is how accurately it captures the currents trends in tattoo imagery here in Japan. These pics are of the kids downtown and in the club/music scene. The tattoos vary greatly in subject matter...ranging from traditional designs to Japanese 'cool' imagery. The book is divided into sections based on theme: Animals, cars/motors/, girls, sea life, spiders, red, blue, green, dragons, space, mermaids, waist, angel, messages, gods, crosses, portraits, flowers, tribal, symmetric, bio, circle, butterflies, birds, swords, skulls, calves, frogs, hearts, music and characters. Text is in English except for shop addresses in the back, book is softcover with high quality binding and nice thick pages.

This is a beautiful copy of Keibunsha's Japanese Tattoo Ladies vol. 1. This book is large - 10" x 14" and contains 144 pages of full color full page photos exclusively of heavily tattooed Japanese women. Text is minimal and in Japanese.

This book is the 1st volume of 1000 JAPANESE TATTOOS SHISEI ZEKKA SORAN  and it is exactly that....photos of 1000 traditional Japanese tattoos. Tattoos of Gods, Demons, Koi and Kingyo (goldfish), dragons, tigers, snakes, foo dogs, samurai warriors, Hannya....it has it all. It is a great reference book for both the shop and the individual enthusiast/artist. 1000's of ideas to work with. Includes an introduction in English, the remaining text is in Japanese. Very cool.
